Born and raised in Los Angeles, Swavey comes from a rap family, which includes TDE rapper Jay Rock, and the 26-year-old was inspired by rappers like T.I., Rick Ross and 50 Cent.

Swavey discussed his career aspirations in a 2018 interview with No Jumper.

“I just plan on doing better than what I did the last time,” he said.

“As long as my sh** risin’, I feel like I’m doing good.”

Following the news of his death, the rapper has been remembered by his peers.

“Rest in Peace to the great Earl Swavey,” Vince Staples wrote.

Rapper RJ OMMIO wrote: “Get yo Rest Earl Swavey”.

Meanwhile, more fans took to Twitter to share their shock over the rapper’s sad passing.

“I can’t believe what I’m reading. He can’t be dead. He had so much magic to give to this world,” one heartbroken fan shared.

“Earl was an icon and a force to be reckoned with. May he be at peace now,” another lovingly penned.

And a third wrote: “So sad to hear this awful news. He was a true talent and a voice of a generation.”

Among Swavey’s first releases was the 2013 mixtape Business Before Pleasure .

It featured the song ‘Beef,’ which was the song that prompted hot-tipped rapper A$AP Yams to contact the up-and-coming star.

The pair soon became close friends, with Earl describing the rapper as his ‘brother’.

“Out of all of the members of A$AP, Yams was really like a brother to me,” Swavey told Grungecake in 2015.

“He would send me Christmas gifts and always look out for my mom and ask if she needed anything.

“I could call him anytime, and he would always answer, no matter what. I definitely gained some wisdom from him.”

Yams died in January 2015 from an overdose due to mixed drug intoxication.

He was also 26.
