Tina O’Brien has been involved in some of the most iconic – and dramatic – storylines while playing Sarah Platt on ITV ’s Coronation Street.
Since her debut in 199, her character has experienced teenage pregnancy, the death of her boyfriend, almost being murdered by her stepfather, a turbulent relationship with Todd Grimshaw – and his brother Jason – and a tragic stillbirth.
After taking a long break from the soap in 2008, Tina delighted viewers when she returned in 2015 to reprise her role as Sarah.
Her character’s life in Weatherfield might be far-fetched, but the 38-year-old actress has had her fair share of drama away from the TV screen.
Tina’s life came under scrutiny when she was 17, as she began dating her on-screen boyfriend Bruno Langley, who played Todd.
They split after a year-long romance, but she hit the headlines when she began a relationship with Bruno’s on-screen brother Jason, played by Ryan Thomas.
Tina and Ryan began dating in 2003, and the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Scarlett, in 2008.
However, just one year later, Ryan and Tina split, and the actress claimed he announced their breakup by telling her she ‘didn’t do it for him anymore’.
The star told new! magazine that Ryan had left her just one week before Scarlett’s first birthday, leaving her ‘absolutely devastated’.
“He said he didn’t love me any more. He said I didn’t do it for him any more. Those were his words. He said he didn’t want the responsibility of a relationship with me,” she confessed.
A decade on from the split, Tina opened up on her struggles after the break-up, and admitted it was hard being a single mum after Ryan left.
“I wish I could tell the scared and fragile Tina of 10 years ago it’s going to be ok, you will get through this,” she wrote in a candid post on Instagram, as she told her followers she suffered from ‘very bad’ post-natal depression.
“I wish I’d had the confidence to ask for help. Life felt pretty dark for a little while. Luckily the dark days eventually lifted,” Tina added.
“I was then a single mum, times when absolutely no income was coming in. I’d be lying if I said it was easy,” she bravely shared.
The actress found love again with Adam Crofts, and the pair welcomed their first child together, son Beau, who is a little brother for her eldest child Scarlett.
Despite co-parenting their daughter, Tina and Ryan have had some public spats in the years since their bitter split, and one feud began when the actor shared some happy news on social media.
In 2019, the actor and partner Lucy Mecklenburgh announced they were expecting a baby together, and in a video shared on Instagram, Ryan’s daughter Scarlett could be seen crying as soon as the delighted couple confirmed the news.
While the former The Only Way Is Essex star insisted the youngster was crying ‘happy tears’, Tina hinted at a rumoured feud between the exes as she cryptically wrote on social media: “Don’t always trust what you see on social media. Even salt looks like sugar.|”
The Corrie star deleted the post, but replaced it with another mysterious quote, as she wrote: “Don’t waste your time with explanations. People will hear what they want to hear.”
