Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd opens up about grief on anniversary of her death

Billie Lourd has opened up about her experience with grief on the anniversary of her mother Carrie Fisher ‘s death.

The 29-year-old is the only child of the late actor – best known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise – who passed away aged 60 on December 27 back in 2016.

Her death was followed by further tragedy for the family when her own mother – Hollywood icon Debbie Reynolds – died aged 84 just one day after losing her daughter Carrie.

Billie – whose father is talent agent Bryan Lourd, 61 – took to social media earlier today to mark the fifth anniversary of her late mother’s death, writing a lengthy post.

The American Horror Story alum shared a photo of her younger self with her mother in the post on Instagram – opening up to her followers about her experience with grief.

She wrote in the post: “People always ask me what stage of grief I’m in. And my answer is never simple. I’m in a different stage of grief in each moment of every day.

“My grief is a multi course meal with many complicated ingredients. An amuse bouche of bargaining followed an anger appetizer with a side of depression, acceptance for the entree and of course a little denial for dessert.”

Billie added: “And that’s how grief should be – all things all at once. Actually there is no ‘should’ in grief. Grief just is whatever it is for you and that is how it ‘should be.'”

The Scream Queens star – who has a one-year-old son – then explained to her 1.5 million followers on the platform why she appeared to be marking the anniversary a day early.

She said: “P.s. for anyone wondering why I’m posting this on the 26th – it’s the 27th here down unda (aka Tomorrowland).”

The actor continued: “So what better thing to post for my Momby’s Australian death anniversary (4 words I never thought I’d be putting next to each other?!?) than this picture of her and I with a koala?”

She concluded the post by writing: “Sending my love to anyone out there who needs it.”

The post attracted responses former co-stars including Finn Wittrock, who appeared with her in American Horror Story: Double Feature. The 37-year-old wrote: “Sending much love your way.”

Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever – her co-stars in the coming-of-age comedy film Booksmart in 2019 – also replied. The former said “love you the most in the world,” whilst the latter commented: “I love you Billie.”
