Phillip Schofield despairs as Lorraine Kelly and daughter fail The Cube game seven times

Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie faced a tough time on ITV’s The Cube, as they appeared in the Christmas Special on Thursday night.

The ITV presenter and her daughter couldn’t get past the first game for a good while, with them losing seven of their nine lives on the one challenge.

In the end, they simplified the task which required them to pass coloured blocks to each other through a small gap.

Rosie had white blocks and her mother had red, but at the end of the timer they needed to have swapped over.

With two gaps in the wall between them, the duo decided to pass and receive a block each time, exchanging their original blocks.

Unfortunately the pair couldn’t get it right and lost several lives in the process on the first game alone, and even after simplifying it, which only added two seconds onto the clock, they still couldn’t do it quick enough.

From dropping blocks to crashing their blocks into each other, there were a few mistakes along the way that cost them time – and also cost host Phillip Schofield his patience.

Those watching were super stressed by the challenge and how close the pair came to being successful each time.

The last time Lorraine and Rosie got it wrong before finally completing the task, Phil was seen despairing with his face in his hands.

He couldn’t hide his frustration, as he continued to shout out for them to be quicker before admitting he had no idea what kept going wrong.

As he fed back to them about their errors, he shouted: “I’m going home!”

Rosie confessed she wanted to give up and go home too as it was “horrible”, but luckily the next attempt proved successful.

Lorraine and her daughter were relieved as they left the cube with two lives remaining and £1,000 in their funds.

Phil, meanwhile, was on the floor clearly needing a lie down as he told them: “I don’t think I can take anymore.”

After round one, the pair smashed the next two challenges in one go without losing any of their remaining two lives.

Securing £10,000 for their chosen charity, they decided it was best if they left with the money before taking on another task.

Phillip told them: “What a tough start, but you both redeemed yourselves beautifully by nailing those games.”

The Cube Christmas Special is now on ITV Hub.
