Saving for a wedding is extremely difficult these days as the cost of living continues to rise.
Numerous factors make planning for the big day extremely costly – but one woman has come up with genius hack to save a fortune.
TikTok user Em Lucin, who lives in Australia, used the ‘post it challenge’ to bank a whopping $5,000 (€3,340), Mirror Online reports.
For this savings challenge, you need to take 100 sticky notes and write down the numbers €1 through to €100 on each one.
Then each day, you’ll pull one post it note out of a box and whatever sum is written down, that’s how much you’ll save.
If you complete the task and open up each sticky note, you could save €3,341.
As Em is based in Australia, the sums of money written down on her notes were written in Australian dollars.
She explained that she started the post in note challenge to help her save for a wedding dress.
Explaining how it works, the TikTok user said: “First, grab yourself a money tin or a little box. Second, you’re going to label it with your savings goal on top – this year, I’m saving for a wedding dress.
“Next, grab yourself some highlighters, sticky notes and a second box. Now for the fun part – it’s time to label each note with numbers $1 through to $100, making sure no two numbers are the same.
“You’re then going to fold them up and put them into the second box, making sure to give them a nice big shuffle.
“Last step is to pull one sheet [note] every day for 100 days.”
If the idea of pulling out one post it note a day seems too much, you can tweak the challenge so that you save less frequently.
You could also lower the amounts, so for example, your sticky notes could be from 1c through to €10 or any other scale that suits your income.
Viewers loved the clever tip, with one person saying: “I will be doing this for my trip to Japan, thanks for the idea!”
Another said: “I keep putting money into a box, I’m like you, if it’s in the bank i’ll spend it!” One keen saver said.
A third added: “I thought this was a joke until I calculated it and it is £5,000!”
