Ralf Rangnick makes Man Utd transfer stance clear to Donny van de Beek and Dean Henderson

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has reiterated his desire not to let Donny van de Beek nor Dean Henderson leave the club in January.

Both players are desperate to depart Old Trafford – at least on loan – to give them a fighting chance of playing in the World Cup later this year.

Both the Netherlands and England have qualified for the tournament in Qatar but Van de Beek and Henderson are unlikely to be selected if they don’t start playing soon.

Neither ace has made a single Premier League start this season, with Henderson playing just two games in all competitions.

Despite both players having serious concerns, Rangnick is not interested in letting either of them leave in January.

The German maintains that he needs both of them around due to United still competing in three competitions: the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

The Red Devils are desperate to win some silverware this season, with their last trophy – the Europa League – coming in May 2017.

Neither player started their FA Cup tie against Aston Villa on Monday, however, suggesting they’ll only be required in dead rubbers or if an injury crisis emerges.

“I told him that I would like him to stay,” said Rangnick when asked about Henderson’s future on Friday. “He is a fantastic goalkeeper, I would really like to have him on board.

“I can fully understand why he wants to play at his age, but we are still in three competitions. I can understand his desire to get regular game time.”

Henderson was left out of United’s 20-man squad for Monday’s game against Villa after reportedly storming out of training.

It’s believed the England international was furious with Rangnick’s decision not to play him for the cup tie, despite other Premier League managers rotating their goalkeepers.

On Van De Beek, Rangnick added: “It is the same situation as with Dean. I am glad to have him in the squad, he is always performing at a high level in training.

“I had a conversation two weeks ago and advised him to stay until the end of the season.

“He wants to play in the World Cup and [current Netherlands manager] Louis Van Gaal told him he needs to regularly play. I understand it, but we have a lot of competition in our squad.”

The Dutchman has endured a tough time at United since his move from Ajax in September 2020, making just four Premier League starts – all of which came last term.

Rangnick’s comments do not mean Henderson and Van de Beek will definitely stay at United beyond January, as both could force through a transfer.

Ajax, Southampton and Brentford are all in the frame to sign Henderson, while Van de Beek has been linked with Wolves, Everton and Borussia Dortmund.

But mega-rich Newcastle are the favourites to sign both players following their Saudi-backed takeover in October.
