Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure is set to return to our screens this weekend in Trigger Point – a thrilling new six part drama for ITV.
The high-octane series will follow bomb disposal operative Lana Washington, played by Vicky, alongside colleague Joel Nutkins, played by Adrian Lester.
The series focuses on the Metropolitan Police bomb disposal squad and counter terrorism unit confronting an imminent terrorist threat in the City of London over the summer.
Vicky, 38, has said she wanted to stress that “you don’t really need make-up” while inhabiting the role of Lana for the new drama.
She told the Radio Times she ditched make-up and an “actual” bra while filming Trigger Point, as she said her character “didn’t make a big deal about the way she looks”.
She said: “I wore a crop top instead of an actual bra. She is real and human.”
On her thought process behind the decision, she said: “I do feel a slight sense of responsibility. There is so much pressure on people, especially via social media.
“I would like to put some kind of message out there, showing people that you don’t really need make-up.
“I think it’s important to strip things back and be comfortable. I mean, my body isn’t fully toned; people will see the real Vicky, as well as Lana. I’m not hiding anything.”
So, when does Trigger Point start and who else is in the cast?
When does Trigger Point start on ITV?
ITV has confirmed Trigger Point will air its first episode on Sunday, January 23 at 9pm.
The new drama consists of six episodes, which will air throughout January and February.
Viewers will be able to catch up with any missed episodes on ITV Hub.
Who is in the cast of Trigger Point?
Vicky McClure is the show’s leading lady, as the bomb disposal operative Lana Washington, but the cast also includes:
- Adrian Lester as Joel Nutkins.
- Mark Stanley as DI Thom Youngblood.
- Warren Brown as Karl Maguire.
- Kerry Godliman as Sonya Reeves.
- Cal MacAninch as Lee Robins SCO19.
- Manjinder Virk as Samira Desai SO15.
- Ralph Ineson as Commander Bregman.
Speaking about Vicky and Adrian’s respective characters, writer Daniel Brierley said: “Lana is the centre of the story for me, she’s real, vibrant and complicated.
“She really fits in with the central paradox of the story, how do you train yourself to be this cool in the face of danger and then survive in the real world and have relationships?
“For me you can’t really have Lana without having Joel, they are part of a double act. He’s the only one who sees all the sides of her – she never has to pretend around him and he gets her.
“They have this symbiotic relationship and they both complete the other. So I couldn’t have Lana, who is raw, vulnerable and wears her heart on her sleeve, without having a character like Joel who is the opposite.”
