808 State musician Andrew Barker has died.
The news of the bassist and keyboard player’s passing was shared on Sunday via the band’s Twitter page.
The group penned a message reading: “It’s with a heavy heart to inform you of the passing of Andrew Barker.”
“His family and friends asks that people respect their privacy at this time but remember him for the joy he brought through his personality and music. You’ll be sadly missed.”
Andrew’s cause of death has not been shared.
The post was illustrated with a black and white snap of Mancunian Andrew smiling.
Under the announcement, fans wrote tributes to the electronic music group star.
One devastated fan typed: “I’m so sorry to hear of this very sad news. Sending my love and sharing my thoughts with you, Andrew’s family and his friends x.”

A second added: “Sad, sad news! Thoughts and prayers with his family and the group.”
Another joined in: “Oh my god…what a shock….so sorry… A great guy…The Spinmasters nights always in the memory..”
Several famous names in the music business also paid tribute to Andrew online.

Happy Mondays’ Rowetta tweeted: “Absolutely heartbreaking news. Love you & will miss you Andy Barker”
She also uploaded two snaps of herself and Andrew.
The Warehouse Project’s Twitter page added: “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Andrew Barker from 808 State.”
Andrew was one-half of the acid house pioneers, initially formed by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson in 1988.
Andrew and Darren Partington, known as the Spinmasters, joined the group in 1989 following Simpson’s departure.
